WaVe Support:
System requirements
Server and cash register
DICO WaVe is only delivered including hardware and is not installed on existing computers. The hardware consists of a server, which is configured with Windows 2003/2008/2008 R2/2012 Server either as a standard or as a terminal server and on the other hand - if necessary - of a so-called Thin Client for the cash register including the necessary POS hardware. All devices have a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) in the scope.
Other (existing) clients
For connections to the server, any PC equipped for normal operation can be used that meets the following requirements:
- Network connection to the server's network
- The operating system must allow connections via so-called remote desktop client (e.g. Windows XP or Vista, but also various Linux distributions)
- Screen resolution min. 1024×768, recommended 1280×1024 or higher

Program start
Start with registration
Perform a double-click on the icon. In the first step, a window responsible for checking for possible program updates will appear. If no new version was found (standard case), the login screen appears afterwards
Start with Autostart
In the case of purpose-bound clients, such as the cash register, no login is usually necessary. Instead, there is first an automatic login and then a so-called autostart of a program function; in the example mentioned, the cash register mask.
If the contractual relationship between Licensee and Licensor is terminated, all documentation - in electronic or printed form - shall be returned or destroyed in non-recoverable form.
Registration
In the login screen, please enter your user name and password. By pressing OK the input is completed. If the information is correct, the main window of the program appears. If the name or password was not correct, a corresponding message will be displayed. After three incorrect attempts the program will be terminated.
When the program is started later, the field for the user name will be preset with the entry of the last start.
Change password
Besides the login process, you already have the option here to ask the program to change your password. Set this option and log in normally. With the display of the main window a mask is shown where you can change your password.
Language selection
For the operation of the program outside Germany another language can be selected here. In the delivery you have the choice between German, Dutch, French and English.

Program components and operation
Menu bars
Menu bars
In WaVe you will usually find the menu bar only in the main window. There you can open the respective function by clicking on the desired menu item. The main menu is divided into the areas
The points displayed in it will be described in more detail in the course.
Toolbars
The toolbar, which is mainly located at the top of all masks, offers quick access to the currently available functions by clicking on program icons. The icons are uniform and always contain the same function when the same icon is used.
Common symbols
Save
The information of the current mask is saved. If data is not plausible or complete, saving can be aborted and corresponding program messages appear with information about the acute problem.
Close
The current mask is closed by this. If there are still unsaved data in the mask, the program indicates this and asks whether these should still be saved. Select NO to discard the changes or CANCEL to end the closing and continue editing the mask.
Edit
If an existing entry has been selected/marked in the data list, it can be opened in a separate mask by selecting "Edit" and edited there.
New
Creates a new record in the list and opens it for editing.
Delete
If an existing entry has been selected/marked in the data list, it can be removed from the list by selecting "Delete". You will be asked whether you want to continue the process. If yes, the deletion will be carried out.
In contrast to "New", no new data set is created here, but a further list opens with already existing data from which one or more entries can be selected.
Remove
In contrast to "Delete", the selected record is NOT deleted, but only removed from the current list. The actual data is retained!
Select
If "Add" has been selected in a mask, a list of similar data that does not yet exist in the original one usually appears. Select/mark the desired entry and click "Select". This will add the entry to the list and remove it from the current one.
Main window
The main window, in which all other masks are opened, has various functions.
Date and time display
The working day, the current date and time are displayed here.
Calendar function
Clicking on the time displays a calendar in a 3-month view and calendar week bar. By clicking again, this display is closed again.
Progress bar
This small bar shows the progress of longer actions.
Notifications
If there are feedbacks from external components and background processes, they are displayed in so-called balloon texts at the bottom center.
Side function bar
After opening larger list views from the main menu (e.g. articles, maps, contacts), they are docked to the sidebar.
If you move the mouse out of the list, it will be hidden to the left. By moving the mouse over the corresponding title in the minimized sidebar, the corresponding list will reappear in full. By default, this option is enabled to save space on the screen.
To show the list permanently, you can click on the title bar of the sidebar and select the Pin icon can be clicked. Clicking again will undo the state again .
If several lists are docked to the page, all of them will be displayed. Tabs for each window appear at the bottom of the list.
Filter masks and search
Search options
Parallel inputs
The search for terms is possible in each column - also possible in parallel.
For example, when searching for a contact, you can enter the term Müller in the Name1 field to limit the hits to this last name and also enter the word Hans in the Name2 field.
Partial terms
With each letter you type, the hit list is narrowed down more and more. If the list is empty, the text is not included.
By default, the filter searches for the entry only at the beginning of the texts in the list. For example, if you search for Müller in field 1, the result will be a list of all contacts whose last names begin with Müller, e.g. Müller, Müllers, Müllerhausen, but not Meyer-Müller.
To find the term throughout the text, prefix it with the character "*". Applied to the above example, one could use *Müller. This would also find the contact Meyer-Müller.
Filter From/To
The methods described above allow searching only for relatively exact terms. Thus, it is not possible to display all contacts with first names from Michael to Otto at once in this way. For this purpose, the from/to search can be added. To do this, click on the icon. (Clicking again closes the search). A second line appears in the filter. Now ranges can be searched with it.
Reset search
To reset the currently set filter and thus view the entire contents of the data list, press the icon shown above.
Export
When the program is started, it checks whether Microsoft Excel is installed on the computer. If this is the case, you can export the contents to Excel via the icon shown above in all data list masks and process them there as desired. The export is done depending on the filter. I.e. only those data are displayed that are currently filtered in the data list.
If Excel is not installed, a text file with the data is created, which has the same content.
Table browser
Also available in each list view mask is the so-called table browser. This is used to adjust the column of the current table.
Nach dem Klick auf das oben dargestellte Symbol erscheint die Maske. Dort besteht die Möglichkeit die Breite aller Spalten zu vergrößern „>“, zu verkleinern „<" oder ganz auszublenden „><".
By clicking on the column name, it can also be changed.
All changes will be saved for the logged in user name and used from that point on.
Contextual hint texts
If the mouse pointer is moved over a menu item in a toolbar or menu bar and is not moved for a moment, short notes or descriptions of the selected item appear.
Keyboard shortcut
Throughout the program, so-called keyboard shortcuts are available in the menus to call up menu items without using the mouse.
The shortcuts that can be used are displayed behind the corresponding menu item.
In addition to the above abbreviations, there are others; recognizable by underscores under the corresponding word. These can be made visible by pressing the ALT key, if not displayed.
Pressing the ALT key together with the key of the underlined letter selects the corresponding menu item.
For example, the menu item Save can be used by pressing ALT + S. ALT + E closes the mask.
Action on double-click or press ENTER
If an entry in the list view is double-clicked, the action of the first menu item displayed in the toolbar is executed - usually this is Open or Add.
The program behaves identically after a search in a list when ENTER is pressed twice. This also executes the action of the first menu for the top entry of the hit list.
This allows you to open the desired entry directly after entering the search term in the filter.
Operation with the keyboard
Besides the mentioned keyboard shortcuts, there are also other ways to move through the program with the keyboard.
Thus, the list view can be navigated up and down with the arrow keys. The marked entry is opened by pressing ENTER 2x.
You can switch between several open masks in the program with CTRL + TAB.
In input masks you can jump forward from field to field with the TAB key. Together with the SHIFT key this happens backwards.
In the case of fields with check marks, these can be activated or deactivated again by pressing the SPACEBAR.
In selection lists, the entries can be scrolled through with the ARROW keys up and down. In some of these selection lists, the selected entry can be reset by pressing theDELETE key.
With the key combinations CTRL + A the entire text of an input field can be marked, with CTRL + C it can be copied to the clipboard, alternatively with CTRL + X it can be cut and finally with CTRL + V it can be pasted from the clipboard to another place.
In input fields, the last change can be undone by using CTRL + Z.
Context menus can generally be opened by pressing the context menu key(to the left of the right CTRL key). Within the menu, an entry can be selected with the ARROW keysand opened with ENTER.
Context menu
In each of the list views, in addition to the image toolbar, there is also a context menu that can be opened by right-clicking with the mouse.
In the menu, all items from the toolbar are also included. In addition, the Copy item is available for selection.
If an entry is selected from the context menu, the corresponding action is applied to the entry selected in the list view.
Program messages
The program has four different types of messages. Each message window has a set expiration time; usually 30 seconds. When the time expires, the message is automatically confirmed with the marked key.
Information message(INFO)
This message with green background is used e.g. for success messages or serves to indicate non-critical actions. These message windows can be closed by pressing the ENTER key or by clicking OK.
Question(QUESTION)
If the program requires feedback from the user, a program message is issued in the form of a query.
Various combinations of confirmation keys can be available here:
- Yes/No or OK/Cancel
- Yes/No/Cancel
- Repeat / Ignore / Cancel
Note message(EXCLAMATION)
This type of message gives hints about program execution that should be observed. For example, messages can be displayed here why data cannot be saved or problems may occur when user actions are continued.
This message can be confirmed by clicking OK or pressing ENTER.
Error message(CRITICAL)
This type of message is displayed only in case of critical program or user errors. Messages should be read carefully. If there are no hints for troubleshooting and there are problems with the further program execution or the error repeats itself, the support should be informed.
Color coding of the program part
The different program parts are grouped by color for better orientation. The masks can be recognized by the colors of the sidebars in master data masks and/or the menu bars in list views.
The following colors can be found in the program (excerpt):
- BLUE - contacts, clientele, conditions
- YELLOW - item management
- BEIGE - Rule and discount system
- GREEN - Document management
- LILA - cash flow objects like cash drawers or banks
- DARK RED - Tasks
- DARK BLUE - Evaluations
- LIGHT GRAY - Settings

Date and time entries
Input fields for date and time have two simplifications. On the one hand, a double click is sufficient to enter the current date/time.
On the other hand, information is added automatically. You don't need any special characters, you only have to type the numbers of the date/time. The rest - if plausible - will be completed. Also, not all numbers have to be entered. Missing parts will be completed automatically when you leave the input field.
Example: It is 04.05.2008.
If 02 is entered, the entry is supplemented to 02.05.2008 after exiting.
If 0204 is entered, 02.04.2008; if 020406 is entered, 02.04.2006 is added.
